When I was a kid the neighbors had a son who would do literally anything for attention. He’d smear mud on his face and pretend it was shit, he’d throw rocks at you, etc. It took me awhile to understand, but he was mostly doing it because he wanted to be friends, but he’d learned from his parents that the only thing that got him any attention was bad behavior.

He was 10. It’s hard to imagine what a miserable, friendless existence he’s likely living now.

Is he going to announced another 1000% discount?

As for the airport issues, I'm cheering as many long lines and potential cancellations as possible. I feel for anyone impacted by the problems but Americans need to face the consequences of who we elected. Duffy, the Transportation Sec may announced potential flight cancellations but I somehow doubt Trump will go for that. He knows that he can't just inconvenience Democrats with these issues.

This is welcome news.  Of course what would be better is if the gov't would simply subsidize it for use to the point that it would be fully available to anyone who might benefit from it and not just those who can pay $100 or more a month for it.

The benefits to the entire healthcare system would be enormous (reducing the need for treatment of issues caused by or related to obesity).

I've had a few coworkers lose large amounts of weight over the last year. I can't say it's GLP-1 drugs but it's a safe assumption. They look great and you would have to guess there are health benefits by dropping that much weight/stress on their body. GLP-1 also looks to have similar benefits for alcohol, drug and gambling addictions. Maybe more of us need to microdose GLP-1.

I assumed they’d just do the cutting of Air traffic controllers from cities in democratic states like Chicago and the west coast… but not DC or NYC bc it would affect them directly.

Funny.  I thought I recall Republicans decrying efforts by the government to negotiate with drug companies to lower Rx prices.  I must have imagined that.

The Rx companies will push to offer coupons for low income/uninsured folks. This is always how they appease politicians who can claim wins. Keeping insurance reimbursement at high levels is the goose that lays the golden eggs.

It's been well documented that GLP-1 drugs have been the reason America's obesity rate dropped for the first time since it started rising alarmingly. Even more so among women.

If there's one drug that should be free, it's probably GLP-1.  If you lose weight, you can eliminate so many health problems and dependence on other maintenance drugs.

However, there's no money to be made in a healthy population.

100%. It's a loss leader on the front end to save exponentially on the back end.

I hope this is true, but I’ll note there was the same push for free preventative care back when the Clinton’s introduced their healthcare plan in 1993, some of which was codified under the ACA, and it’s confounded economists that there wasn’t more evidence of savings as a result.

Not entirely surprising, but it appears the GLP-1 drugs have the same kind of use/diet pattern as other reduced calorie treatments (I.e., cessation of use results in the the patient putting weight back on).  That matters from a cost of treatment perspective since it’s basically a lifetime commitment for many.

This shitty economy might be as good as a fat drug, what with poor people not being able to fucking eat.

Because we aren't actually making any of the structural changes to the way we live to actually make a healthier society.

I'm not remotely paying attention to politics at the moment but do have business travel to east coast each of the next 2 weeks.    I know this is asking way too much for this board but is there a non-partisan breakdown (or linked article) of what exactly the biggest issues are and any best guesses as to how this gets resolved?    I can't fathom either party wants this fucking over Thanksgiving travel

I don't want it over.  There's only two ways this should go:

1) It ends because the Guardians Of Pedophiles give in, and restore the ACA subsidy so working Americans can have health care, or

2) the Guardians of Pedophiles stand fast, say "fuck you" to working Americans, the shutdown continues, and the pain spreads and multiplies.

Most of "we the people" learn only by experiencing personal pain.  Well, school's in session.

Sure, I can try.

Dems have little incentive to give in on their Medicaid and other budget demands after Tuesday's results and polls showing that Republicans are largely being blamed (and rightfully so, imo) for the shutdown.

Republicans have a myriad of options, but with no singular play that makes everyone in the big tent happy. Even removing the filibuster which gets rid of Dem opposition there is not a 100% chance that all Republicans agree to vote on cutting Medicaid among other issues with the budget. On the other hand, you have those that do not want to agree to keep Democratic demands in the spending budget. Removing the filibuster also opens a can of worms where there can be more legislation that purple area R's don't want to have their name associated with as the midterms near. On top of that they have to come up with a budget(s) that the president will sign. Especially, with a president who does not like to appear weak or giving in to the opposition party.

Reduce the stress of the situation on yourself,  and use it as a form of protest to this fucked up society.

Any chance that Democrats would cave likely (hopefully) ended on Tuesday.

So now everyone's just waiting around for Trump to force Congress to abolish the filibuster or for an administration and political party famously known for admitting their mistakes to come back to the table and reach an agreement.

My completely baseless guess is something gets done next week, and the GOP tries to wrap in a "we did what we had to do to save your Thanksgiving from those dastardly Democrats" bow.

Not exactly non-partisan, but likely pretty accurate.

ATC, TSA, and many other crucial government employees to the aviation process havent gotten paid in over a month, and the president has floated the idea publicly that they will not get back pay. While he throws lavish parties and spends hundereds of millions demolishing parts of the white house.

That's the straight truth of the matter. If you dont want to follow anything political thats what you need to know.
