and education?

To an extent.  For instance, the federal govt Erate program.  This provides discounts for internet access to K-12 school districts on a sliding scale of 40-90% off, depending on how many students are participating in the free and reduced lunch program.  As you can imagine, a school district can get a multi gig fiber internet connection for pennies on the dollar.  This is funded on every cell and land line bill (the universal service fee, it is itemized on your bill).  Yes, even Marge and Sean's cell bills pay taxes toward devil worshipping socialistic programs that aid public schools.

However!  They have to provide content filtering as part of the Children's Internet Protection Act of 2000 in order to get the discount.

So, similar to a lot of federal education policies, districts have a choice:  they can participate with certain strings attached, or they can abstain (and turn down federal funding).

There are also block programs, where the feds hand over funds to a state, and the state divides it up.

Out here in the hinterlands of west texas, I've seen quite a few "Texit" signs and bumper stickers (and even a t-shirt) since that senile, sleepy old man pulled one of the biggest scams in history and stole the presidential election. I avoid any person or establishment supporting such traitorous idiocy.

I was out in the Big Bend area all weekend and saw a few of those.  One of them was on a house in Valentine.  Does someone living in that abandoned shithole think that's what is going to make that place great?  It was really funny to us.

They probably live off their social security.

Hey, Sean, you fuckwad, you left some stuff off your bullet-point list.  In addition to the halting of federal benefits like social security and Medicare for your mouth-breathing secessionists (who wouldn't fund the state equivalent for either), why don't you paint a picture of what it'll look like when a foreign aggressor decides to take a stab at invading the southeastern United States in the absence of a federal defense?  And just how shitty will the secessionist's formerly-interstate roads get?

We could go on, but it wouldn't serve his pandering and narrow-minded narrative.

They don't think it will make their place great, they think it will make everyone else's lives as miserable as theirs. They aren't trying to rise, just drag others down.

Look, it's a simple addendum to the requirements to vote.

-- must be 18 years old on or before the election date

-- must be a US citizen

-- must be a resident of the state

-- must be registered to vote in your state

-- must not have been convicted of a felony crime (nudge nudge wink wink)

-- must not have lived in a blue state at any point during the last 60 months

yeah, there's a fine line between, "we need to secede and form our own country" and "the country is so divided so we need to actually divide it into two countries that are both technically america so we still have access to the stuff we need but biden can't tell us what to teach our kids."

it's just another backwards fight for "state's rights" which last i checked, most states have already and can pretty much do whatever their despot leaders feel like, as long as they get one more vote than their opponent, likely through bogeymen positioning and nonsensical fabricated culture wars.

which is why i asked my original (rhetorical) question of what her end goal looks like.  i know georgia isn't as bad as some, but she could easily move to florida and be a part of book-banning, stripping women of their rights, promotion of religion when it's convenient, voter suppression, and pretending that all this heavy handed leadership actually makes someone "more free" than the super oppressed citizens of blue-state hellscapes.

It would be an interesting sociological experiment and maybe show some people what dumbfucks they are.  Temporarily secede like Alabama for 6 months or something and let em see what happens.   Oh, you didn't realize the federal government subsidizes basically your entire way of life?  Oh, that's a shame.  Ok, you can come back, but maybe shut the fuck up from now on.

Someone needs to start hammering at her that the state doesn’t need that much power, that state government should be shrunk down to minimal levels and all the power given to local municipalities.  Why should Atlanta get to tell the whole state what to do?

and then maybe we can walk it down to individual right to set your own laws on your own property.

also if there’s very little federal government, who enforces the amendments that she cares about?

She's so fucking simple.

Lost in all the rhetoric is the fact that she's really only saying she wants to go back (way back) to a bare bones federal government.  It's not a "divorce" at all, but more of an open marriage (admittedly a concept she knows a lot more about than me).  Red and blue states will still share a house to shelter and protect them, they'll just get rid of the joint bank accounts and vow not to meddle in each other's personal affairs.

There's actually a way to articulate that sentiment that doesn't set the internet on fire, but when the real goal is attention, what's the point in that?

"EU, but shittier"

Don’t kid yourselves.  There is a significant portion of the population everywhere in Texas, including the big cities, that would convince themselves that Texit would be good in theory.  The number who would actually go through the realities of that process is much smaller, and the number who would do some Republic of Texas style armed insurrection is much smaller still.  But in the meantime, the looneys will have plenty of sympathetic ears even if it is just virtue signaling.

Hannity wouldn’t put that shit on the air if he didn’t think the audience would eat it up.

When I hear people even start to talk about it (the Qanons in the family are serious about it), I point out that Texas with its 24 million people, is a minority-majority state and that whites are or will soon be behind Hispanics in the numbers, that Catholics are the largest religious group in the state, sitting next to a nation of 125 million that are predominantly Catholic themselves.  That nation also used to own us and has a lot of citizens/former citizens (or their descendants) living here in Texas, and that any kind of break with the USA means we won't have nukes or much of a military, and that Mexico could royally fuck us any which way they wanted and the US would just laugh about it and ask when we wanted to come back.

I like to ask them what Texas is going to look like in a scenario where whites are not the largest group, Catholicism is the largest religious group, and we are sitting next to Mexico that could fuck with our border any time they wanted to, whether that's violate it, or whether that's shuttle a bunch of Central/South American people right to our border.

MTG is still raving about this on Twitter, and I have to wonder what GOP reps from blue states, including the speaker, think about this proposal to break up the Union and leave them behind in rumpn Democrat-controlled state.

I mean, McCarthy made this bed and I hope he gets bed-bugs from his crazy-ass sleeping partner but still.  I wonder if they’ve even grasped the message there.

So stupid, on so many levels. But the lack of forward thinking is amazing. Lets say it WAS possible to split states, and lets say people were on board with it. What happens when every red state basically eliminates public education? Anyone who CAN move, regardless of their politics, will move to a state that has support for infrastructure, education, etc. And they'll do it and continue to keep their red stupid politics and outspoken bullshit about fascism as they all pack the fuck up and move to Pennsyltucky.

As for that KGB Map:

UBsP9vD9eM1E6tWncQR0u4QTrEgnCTZ1-lmtns4WUYU.jpg?auto=webp&v=enabled&s=3111ae145d3ba9a74ddb516cb35f415fa3748882

Lots of fun here. Lets start with Texas, which, well, ok this one is almost feasible. But some posters here will be tickled to see "Texas Republic - Part of Mexico or under Mexican influence."

Seriously, can anyone see any of the listed states actually getting along? Half of the Cali Republic hates the other half. Ditto Central North American.

Lol at Tenn, KY, WVA, SC getting along with the fucking Yankee states. Ok guy.

The moral is that we actually hate each other way, WAY more than that map understood. A lot can change since 2010, sadly.
