Are they just incredible stupid or are they trying to sabotage him?

I voted for Nikki Haley in the Feb. 27 primary in part to move the Republican Party past Donald Trump. She received 296,200 votes — 27 percent of the primary votes — at a time when it was clear that Trump was likely going to be the party’s nominee. Many of those 296,200 voters will not vote for Trump on Tuesday; I am one of them.

Donald Trump and JD Vance don’t advocate for the values of the Republican Party I once knew.

Super clean website that citypulse. I clicked on it so the rest of you do not have to. The rest of that quote is pretty outstanding. Why is it so fucking hard to understand?

Quote

Donald Trump and JD Vance don’t advocate for the values of the Republican Party I once knew.

Rather than promoting trade with the rest of the world, they embrace protectionism and across-the-board tariffs that will make working families pay more for everyday goods. Harris is focused on targeted, strategic tariffs.

Trump has no fiscal discipline. He added $8 trillion to the debt during his first term. Every time he gives a campaign speech he promises a new handout to a different group. I don’t agree with all of Harris’ economic policies, but she is more fiscally disciplined than Trump.

Trump and Vance thrive on xenophobia and blaming immigrants for all of our problems, rather than coming up with sensible, conservative solutions to serious issues like rising housing costs. Though I may disagree with some of her policy solutions, at least Harris is proposing ideas to fix our problems.

Rather than promote a strong Reaganesque foreign policy, Trump and Vance admire dictators and want to abandon Ukraine and our NATO allies.

Trump promised an auto manufacturing boom and failed to deliver. Factories closed under Trump; auto factories are being built under Harris.

Trump and his allies have done grave damage to the Republican Party — both in Michigan and nationally.  If we ever want our Republican Party back, it has to start with Donald Trump losing on Nov. 5.  That’s why I’m voting for Kamala Harris.

(Gary Reed was executive director of the Michigan Republican Party from 1992 to 1995.)

My financial advisor has been telling me for 9 years that a Democratic victory is going to ruin the stock market. Wrong every time so far. But for all the credit given to "Wall Street" and their prescience, you'd think they'd be overwhelmingly preaching the Biden/Harris polices to teh high heaven. We've got our soft landing, the stock market is booming, manufacturing is on the rise thanks to their policies, and everyone is fucking making money. And yet, they still favor Trump.

At some point, you have to question if these people are deliberately tipping the scales against their best corporate interests. I guess their stock/bonus at the end of the year trumps corporate profits thanks to the Tax cuts...

Anecdotal but we know a wife of a GOP voter who isn't telling her husband her intention to vote for Harris. We know another couple who are getting divorced over this.

Anyone who thinks this isn't a thing is in denial and needs an education.

He's been a close friend for a # of decades. A lot of my circle use him. And as I said before, I generally dictate what I want, and he only handles a very conservative area of my portfolio. So basically, it's hard for him to fuck up. And in my experience with people in finance and personal wealth, they ALL fucking say the same shit.

If I recall correctly, the Michigan Republican Party was taken over by the idiot MAGA faction and has run it into the fucking ground.  They have either expelled or repulsed the old guard and have basically bankrupted the state party.  This endorsement is about Harris, but is also an attempt to regain control of the state Party.  I applaud both.

You’re correct. Michigan and AZ GOP parties are bankrupt and broken. That’s what happens when you let people like Kristina Karamo and Kellie Ward take over

Looking at this from just a common sense perspective...

In 2020 Biden beat Trump pretty handily. Enough so that anyone who wasn't trying to overthrow the election knew all the trump stuff was bullshit.

Since then trump has initiated an insurrection, stolen classified information and potentially sold it to our enemies, been arrested and charged in a multitude of federal and state crimes, been tried and convicted in NY or 34 felonies, has had almost everyone who worked in his administration either get arrested or call him a fascist, and has gone all out cranking the racism and fascism up to 11.

Meanwhile, the country's economy under Biden/Harris has been strong, there have been no major scandals, no major disasters, no recessions or depressions, and every day American life is pretty much stable post pandemic.

Nothing points to a close race. I think the vast majority of voters are just tired and fatigued by the nonsense and want no part of polling.

This is what we thought may happen after 2012 Obama with the Tea Party. Instead, it just created MAGA.

Yeah but the Tea Party absolutely hurt the GOP for a while in downballot races. Think Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell.

Even though the Idaho dairy association lead says that a crackdown on illegal workers will end dairy production in Idaho, I bet he still votes Trump. He will tell himself that Trump isn’t talking about their production workers or that it’s just hyperbole. Then when Stephen Miller’s brown shirts come for the workers, the Idaho dairy farmers will ask and receive a handout from Trump for being a loyal state.

Trump must leave the stage. He's the glue holding it together.

When that happens, who takes over? Does Laura stick around and continue to siphon off money to the family, or do they leave and find their next grift?

Until we know either of these things the GOP is stuck with MAGA.

Interesting.  In 2016, I wondered if a third party would rise from a Democratic Party Schism.

Yet, it's 2024, and here we are, looking at the Great GOP Schism.  Fuck the GOP.

JD Vance does not deserve an abbreviation. It's too bad we already gave Vulvarine to Ted Cruz, because it fits perfectly for Vance as well.

The GOP will get rid of Laura Trump as soon as Trump is gone.  They know what she's doing and it was only done to humor Trump.  They are going to stop the money siphon as soon as they can.

The MAGA Republicans ARE the Republicans now. There are a lot of people I would have called "chamber of commerce" Republicans prior to 2016, but those people have gotten really, really comfortable saying the quiet parts out loud over the past 8 years. It's going to have to be the Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney types that split off and start a new party. Will they take enough people with them to keep MAGA out of power until all the olds die off? That's the real question.

Probably just playing it safe, Vance could change his name three or four times before he sits down with Rogan.

Before Laura walks out, all of the RNC paperwork gets burned and the email/data gets deleted. And those left behind will be reminded of the NDAs to the Trump family and the penalties for violating them.

It started before 2016. The original MAGA, the tea party started it. MAGA just kicked it in warp speed.

best thing for democrats to do is continue to go more moderate and pull in the ostracized traditional/fundamental republicans to their side. It would allow the most party growth and ability to take house/senate.

Don't we think that is happening now? Boebert nearly got ousted in 2020 in a very red district, Cruz is up against it (again)... NC is about to flip (fingers crossed and I realize this is gov related largely). GA did flip. Maybe it's not the same magnitude but this feels somewhat analogous.
