Normal stuff.

This is slipping by too quickly.  Who the fuck tells a group targeted for genocide in their past, “you better like me or else!”  What exactly does “or else!” mean?  How is that group supposed to interpret that in any way other than an existential threat?

The "our wonderful Evangelicals are far more appreciative" is just....wow. I know Roy Cohn taught Trump and his father how to manipulate the legal system, but how Trump uses his words in an attempt to manipulate others is out of some pretty nasty playbooks in history.

It's almost like he doesn't understand that the Zionist movement originated in the American Evangelical movement.

A person who has only a vague notion of the Civil War, the Holocaust, or any history not directly related to himself.

And a person stirring up hate.

we've discussed several times that he sees no difference between jewish people here in the states and the state of israel, which is considered the homeland for jewish people (among others).  he definitely thinks all jews in the u.s. came from israel, even though i know very very few israelis and know a ton of jewish people (my ancestors are polish, russian, etc).

i'm sure it's completely lost on him why so many people like my great grandparents had to flee to the states and what the implications are for his dangerous rhetoric.

bottom line is this - he is nice to israel because he thinks it will make american jews like him, because everything is transactional.  i guarantee you he's had out loud conversations about figuring out how to get the people of israel to help him win elections here.

shit, ben shapiro has been dividing us into "good and bad jews" for years now (someone else can dig up the article or tweet).  i'm a bad jew i think.

i phrased that badly.  i really meant it about the first part of my sentence.  that he hasn't put it together why so many jews are here in the first place.

i'm aware and agree that he knows what his pointed rhetoric is about.

I remember how twisted it felt when I learned of the branches(?) of Judaic folk, and that one was known as Ashkenazi.

Anyway, i read a tweet from a guy who said Jewish people don’t cotton to pigs or shrimp, so it ought follow Jewish people wouldn’t like Trump.

jewish people are generally educated and tend to live in big cities.  we're not rural people, we're not farmers.  there's your trump venn right there.

when i first moved to la, people were like, what?  they have jewish people in texas?  i'm like yeah, 3 (now 4) of the biggest cities in the country are in texas.  you wanna find us, look to the city.  look to the cookie, elaine.

Can confirm: it's how we (continue to) interpret it.

this is the formula in his little fun-dip brain that he seems to think is effective:

1. find a group that universally opposes him

2. tell everyone (including that group) how much he has done for them

3. wait for approval to change in his favor

4. be mystified when it doesn't

5. start making threats

not sure what 6 is, but i can hazard a guess.

Yeah, I remember after finding out my mother is half Sephardic Jew via Iberia, I went and "did my own research" into the various branches.  And saw ashkeNAZI.  And I thought, "Whoah, talk about shitty coincidences."

A very successful real estate guy in Manhattan has done deals with the Trump Organization over the years.  He told me that years and years ago, Trump finally realized he had to quit with the anti-semite slurs around the office because he realized what a tight-knit group the really wealthy Jewish real estate community is in Manhattan.  And if he wanted to continue doing business with them, he had to knock off the slurs.  But he said the lesson didn't last long and people were overhearing him talking anti-Jew shit by time the Apprentice got on TV.

As a running gag for years, this guy would invite Trump to temple with him knowing that Trump would do it for the business opportunities, but he'd never wear a yarmulke because it would pull his weave out so Trump always politely declined.  But this guy Saul called it years ago.  He said Trump spent his whole life looking into the elite Manhattan window and wondering why he was never accepted by them, and he's gonna take out that frustration on America.

The far right orthodox Jews supported him in a very big way.  And they are still right by his side.  The hard liners aren't leaving him - and he gets some of these talking points from them.  The orthodox/conservative Jews share very little in common with far left Jews.  He had several dinners with Lou Shiner and that crew that raised millions of dollars for his campaign last couple elections.

The far right orthodox Jewish enclaves in and around New York City are part of the reason Polio has made a comeback.  I am not surprised they would turn out for Trump in a big way.  Those far right Jewish enclaves have very little in common with the vast majority of the Jewish people.

not to completely derail this, but if we're talking about the spectrum of judaism, i would say conservative is a lot closer to reformed and orthodox is off on its own.  if we're talking about "conservative jews" on a political spectrum, that's different.  i know a lot of conservative jews who are left to far left in their political beliefs.

that said, i know some wack job texas jews who are pro everything (and everyone) israel, get into facebook arguments about bibi, and were first in line to get their horse dewormer.  so it takes all kinds, is i guess the message here.

Yes I meant more in a political way.  I only know this because we have to have Skilled Nursing contracts to follow our patients after the hospital as they don't qualify to get rehab in the hospital, in most cases.  And TONS of those contracts are with the Orthodox Jewish community - even in places with no Jews, Orthodox or not...been eye opening to see just how in the bag they are for Trump.  Hold as many conferences as they can at his resorts, etc.

And not a single Republican who shits on Dems for “wasteful spending” will say a fucking word about it.

Yeah, Republicans only care about government spending when Democrats do it. It’s fine when Republicans do it. When democrats do it, it’s SOCIALISM!! Eek!

Religious extremists tend to support him, be they ultra Orthodox Jews or Evangelical Christians.

Ya know? I consider this to be his business and not mine. If everyone was consenting and no harm done, I'm fine with somebody doing these things.

The usual knock on GOPs caught seeking gay trysts or paying for abortions is their hypocrisy because they generally persecute others for the same thing. I don't think a man with Nixon tatooed on his back and an openly villainous person can be charged with hypocrisy.

Jail or hang him for other things but not this.

I can still be really ooged out, can't I?

Anyone who wants to see Jewish folks in Texas should drive down McCallum/Meandering way streets in far north Dallas on a Saturday afternoon.

Since my knowledge is very limited on the subject... the people who walk to synagogue on Saturdays where the men are in black with the wide brimmed hats are orthodox? Or is that common for everyone?

I tend to mostly see men in dress shirts and yarmulke but in certain parts of my neighborhood it's almost exclusively black attire and large hats more akin to what Amish wear.  Always wondered if that was a different sect within the religion.
